For this back bending series of workshops, I will turn my attention to the challenges we often encounter with back bands, and how we can methodically reduce those obstacles and limitations to gain freedom from restrictions and imbalances.
This approach is a high priority in the practice of asana. (Always restoring balance).
Freedom from restrictions and imbalances also translates to the mental/emotional level, not only physically.
A clear understanding of how the limbs of the body (Arms and legs) function to provide access to the freedom of the spine, and the back bending asana. We will first explore the lower limbs, followed by the upper limbs, and work towards the spine. This will be the basic strategy. Variations, props, combining technique, asana sequencing, and philosophical principles will all be part of the workshop practice.
During these workshops, I will suggest variations or alternatives so that everybody will be able to find a level of practice that is appropriate for them personally.
(Please make sure you have the list of equipment required for me to provide these alternatives—see below).
1 Mat, 2 Blocks, 2 Belts, 4 Blankets,1 Bolster, 1 Chair.
Folded blankets can be used to substitute for a bolster. Improvise where you need to and how you see fit.
